Re: 50 Cent Piece Grading Help - 1958 & 1964
Although I don't specialize in 50 cent silvers, I'm pretty sure that both dates are very common and are worth, basically, scrap silver(most dealers will give you 88-90% of scrap for Canadian .800 silver). I think the first one is about F-15, and the other VF-20, maybe both a tad better. With silver ...

Re: 2012 O Canada set error?
Don't send it in to grade. It will cost you 10 times more than the coin(s) will ever be worth. The twonie has a minor alignment abnormality, but it looks within specs (or how you can find them). The loonie looks like a small die chip, but possibly post-mint damage. Just keep asking questions to lear...

It's something funded by the Federal government that has lots of books inside, and a few computers. It's free .. act now before Revenue Canada taxes it.

You can also go to the library and either check out or just look at the 2011 (65th edition) of Charlton. It has the Victoria Large Cent variety section in the back of it. There are probably 12-15 1859's in the section. I co-wrote that variety section, probably have 700-800 1859's and live in Burling...

Your coin is similar to the 1857 I remarked about above. Not much value, but a neat detector find... you must live semi-near the border with Ontario. B

You have to first hit the link or button that says either "Post reply" or "New topic". Then directly below all the formatting boxes, under the subject line, is a blue click-on that says "add an image to your message body". That's all you need.
Re: coinage
Almost without exception, circulation strikes in the higher grades will always be worth more than a proof. Just by their definition and the method by which they are struck, a proof coin is meant to be entombed in plastic or mylar for the rest of its life. Even with a "low" proof mintage of...

Re: COINS
I took a very quick look at you lists and nothing leaped out at me. Unless you have a coin that is uncirculated or very close to it, 99% of what you have is essentially scrap silver. For Canadian coins after 1920, every face dollar (dollar, 2-50 cents, 4 quarters, etc) contains .6 troy ounces of sil...

Even if you can't read the denomination on it .. what size is it? Copper or silver? Canadian coins are the same size as US, except a 5 cent silver is smaller than a dime.

Re: Is this coin rare??
No, any coating applied was post-mint and, if it as described (an oval & thick) it would detract from the price, not enhance it. Try to get a picture of it .. it should show up. There is no "coating" applied at the mint .. there is a final wash to remove any contaminants, but no coatin...

Without a picture, it's hard to tell what you are talking about. It could be lacquer, it could be bees wax .. who knows. try a scan or a pic. B

Re: Anyone on Vancouver Island to help sort a collection?
Don't ever sell your coins to the same person who gave you the "estimates", unless you know him well and have done business before. This is especially true if you don't know what you really have. A little clue as to what you inherited would help anyone on this site to help. Is it modern RC...
