Re: 1958 penny
100% scraping damage. No ifs, ands, or buts about it. alternative - I remember back in "58, when I was still a wee lad, there was a terrible copper-eating caterpillar infestation on the maple tree in front of my house. They left trails all over the leaves. They always left a little ball of poop at t...

Listed weight in Charlton is 3.24 so, yes, it's normal.

Re: 1896 10 Cents Obverse Variety
The easiest way to tell the two apart is by checking the shape of the inner part of the ear. Have a look at the inside of the ears in the photos already posted and you'll see the portrait 6 has a "stomach shape" with a smooth curve at the right side of the ear , while the portrait 5 has a ...

That is a token included in the 1999 set that comes on the oval map card.

Re: Fresh Meat ^^;
I have been collecting for close to 50 years. I still go through my change to get the new coins. I won't buy anything after 2000 unless it is a normal circulating coin, and only if I haven't found it in my change after several years. Go to a coin store, buy a Charlton or other good coin catalogue. C...

Re: Advice on Selling Silver
When calculating silver, you must use troy ounces, not imperial ounces. A troy oz. is 31.1 grams, not the usual 28.35 grams. As Bill in Burl has said, $1 of .800 silver is .6 troy ounces (as marked in older Charlton catalogues). It doesn't matter if it's dimes, quarters, 50 cents, or dollars, becaus...

Re: New here! ~ a couple questions.
Q2; Do you mean 1948? In the 2011 Charlton, there are 2 1947ML varieties listed; blunt and pointed 7, the 1948-49 are the ones with the A to or between denticles.

That looks like what happens when you put a cent into one of the "lucky penny" horseshoes or similar surrounding collar. Not a mint error.

Re: 1914 & 1916 both years on one coin?
Check if there is a seam along the rim where 1/2 coins were stuck together. I have a large cent with 2 heads and there is a hint of the joining apparent.

Re: 1910 5 cent leaves
Here's the secret, but shh, don't tell anyone. One the left side, on the pointed variety, the point of the leaf curves down, on the round, well, there's no real point. On the right side, on the pointed variety, the leaf almost touches the denticles; on the round variety, there is about a 1/8 inch sp...

Re: Bust and harp token
Run out and buy the Charlton catalogue, Canadian Colonial Tokens (2010 is the latest I have, maybe there's a more recent one). There are 15 varieties listed, plus 3 Blacksmith types. Your 2 tokens are listed as LC-60E1 for the top one and LC-60C1 for the lower one.
