Re: Test of new imaging procedure
It's so I can catalogue everything I have, and it's good for insurance purposes in case it ever gets stolen.

Re: Test of new imaging procedure
I kind of got it, I'm using my coin microscope to take pictures of my coins but the height of the camera is only 7", and it's not ideal for large coins. But I just took these photos and processed them in Gimp to round crop them, and corrected the levels by using Colors/Levels/Auto Input Levels (agai...

Test of new imaging procedure
Hi all, I'm trying to decide if I should continue to re-image all of my coin images for my own personal online collection. Below are examples of the old imaging method (the dark ones), and the new imaging method (the lighter ones). It's the same coin, I just need your opinion on what procedure you t...

Re: 2013 5 dollar notes to add
I re-scanned these notes and deicded to post them here. I paid $9 each for them. Do you think I got a good deal? The seller claims they are uncirculated, but I think they're closer to GEM Uncirculated, but I could not for the life of me tell you what the grade is. Any ideas? 2013 Canada 5 Dollars (1...

2013 5 dollar notes to add

Weird shape of "0" of 1960 date
Have a look at this, I was re-photographing my coins and saw this anomaly on a 1960 nickel. The letters on the word "Canada" look a little thick and wonky too. PMD or new variety?

Re: 2 x 2 coin flips
I get that too. I just take a flat ruler and stick it into the slot and release the stuck 2x2 coin holder. But that leaves a sticky residue on the front and back of the holder. Just be sure not to do it in any dusty areas in your home, or put the holder down on a soft cloth that has lint on it. Othe...

Re: Coin photography - Conflicted on how to do it properly
Another interesting thing is that photographing coins this way brings out all the spots and scratches and shadows on raised elements. The 2022 toony is an AU (About Uncirculated) coin pulled out of the wild as soon as it came out... but I see that it still has several flaws. Maybe this will help me ...

Re: Coin photography - Conflicted on how to do it properly
Ok, here to post an update. I can't express it enough, I LOVE this camera! Though it suits me, it may not suit everyone who is trying to achieve high quality images of their coins. BUT, I'm attaching a few samples of what it does. I would appreciate any feedback. Part of the biggest problem is that ...

Re: Scanning Banknotes
Hi rkp21, I just saw this. If you're like me and you need to catalogue all of your banknotes into a database, sometimes when scanning, my scanner gives me a pop-up message that says that I'm trying to scan money and will not allow it to be scanned at a high resolution. This is a protective measure i...

Re: New serial number of bill not listed on your registry
It is: https://coinsandcanada.com/banknotes-serial-numbers-search.php?denomination=3&prefix=AB&serialNumber=0086173&cat=21&recherche=Rechercher It is a replacement note, indicated by the asterisk before the serial number that may be of a little extra value but yours is not a 'devil's face' note whic...

Instructions on how to round-crop coin images
For years I have struggled with trying to figure out how to crop round images, namely all of the coins I have scanned throughout the years. I've recently figured out how to do this without too much effort and the results are fantastic! This is assuming that you must have some way of scanning your co...

Re: 1951 High Relief Nickel
Thanks for the quick reply! Seriously? I could get ~$200 for each of them, give or take? These have been in my collection since the early 1980s, I can't do anything about the condition.

1951 High Relief Beaver Nickel
Could someone help me to determine if these are 1951 high relief nickels? I have two of them (both 'Beavers'), where the "A" points to a denticle in the word "Gratia" along with one Beaver that points between denticles. Does this mean that my estimate of the grade of VG means each of them are worth ...
