Corrosion VS grade
Hey all, I am finally going to put out a question I have wavered over for years when assigning coins to my collection, or for grading, sell, or the cull pile. Corrosion / rust. Many times, I come across sweet coins that have some amount of rust or corrosion and I always wonder... does this go from M...

Yep, likely PMD but fascinating.

Re: 1948 CAD cent...
It is quite unusual. One thing for sure is that this coin has seen things... On the Reverse, the missing part of Canada doesn't seem to have been scraped or gouged away, but the lump clearly has some N stamped on it. And the C seems to be folded! Now the Obverse?... who knows! I am on the side of PM...

1948 CAD cent...
What are we thinking here? PMD, planchet issues, or ?
Obv. looks like an alien face-hugger on backwards!
It's a nice colour though.
Cheers!

Re: Quick question about grams.
Ya, that's my first thought too... but I would need something proven to be an exact weight to do so...

Quick question about grams.
I just purchased a bunch of nickels and lumped in was a 2004 Canada silver dollar... I think. I know silver and gold coins tend to be faked a lot, (I once got a fake 2005 1oz 50 dollar coin, which was easy to id) So I am always suspicious of getting a (non-identified) precious metal coin in a lot......

Re: 2012 Rose Gold Plated Dime in Proof set ?
Calico ... As an amendment to your post about RCM products sitting and losing value. If the large coin shows start up again with regularity, you can normally pick up RCM products 3-4 years after issue, for well less than the issue price. They could be up to 50% off what they sold to the public for....

Re: 2012 Rose Gold Plated Dime in Proof set ?
IMO. Be careful if you are purchasing RCM products as investments rather than collecting. I just purchased a 1972 Mint set for 15 dollars. Someone sat on that for 50 years. Now if you inherited a pile of 1921 unc. nickels...

2005 RCM annual Report silver nickel damage
Good afternoon all. I thought I would put up a (once) beautiful RCM coin I have. This is my 2005 selectively gold plated victory anniversary nickel sent out in the 2005 RCM annual report. This silver coin had the Victory V plated in gold with a brilliant silver field and beauty cameo. Now it sits in...

Re: 2012 Rose Gold Plated Dime in Proof set ?
My 2 cents... Although I have no direct input on this particular coin, I do have in situ silver mint proof nickels that are so toned they look gold plated. Sometimes only on one side. Specifically my 2000, 2001, and 2005 are aggressively toning. Weirdly, the 2002 to 2004 are not. Who knows what happ...

Re: PMD or strike through? ... opinions please.
Thanks for the response, I figured it was PMD, but I seem to remember in earlier years the collar did have a slight ability to expand on springs, although very slight. So this was one to ponder a bit. Cheers!

PMD or strike through? ... opinions please.
I have a 1978 1 cent that has a nicely worn indent along the rim. The wear around the damage is pretty consistent with the overall wear of the coin. My first thought is PMD, but the metal has not moved or bulged out as much as one would expect if it occurred outside the collar die during the strike,...
