Re: 1945 No Chrome?

But to the other question, in hand, under the loop, no, I see no remaining trace of plating. Under high lighting and the 16x and 45x. Nothing that resembles plating. Then I suppose it's missing its chrome plating. I'm not going to deny that these are a legitimate variety quite yet, but what constit...

Re: 1945 No Chrome?

Is this one of those '45 no chromes, or has the chrome just worn off? That's a question for the ages. A better question to ask would be: why did these missing chromes not exist when I was young and when did they become accepted as a major variety? I have never seen a steelie in as bad shape as the ...

Nice find Gramps. What's going on with the engraver's initials and along the beads on the first '65?

Re: Stuff that in your pipe and smoke it.

Just not a clue how to grade these things. Hand me an 1891 Seated Liberty Half, or any Barber, no sweat. Give me something from my own country, *crickets*. haha If you're going to carry a horse shoe up the wazoo then you're just gonna have to learn. The GRV and GRVI are the easiest to grade over th...

Stuff that in your pipe and smoke it.

No horseshoe. Opportunties are made. Quite obviously it pays to smoke Players. My latest big find from the till is a Habs 100th anniversary Loonie. Out west here not a soul I show it to has even heard of such an abomination let alone set eyes upon one!! One Rider fan was seriously miffed to find out...

And you can also compare 'curvey(#5) vs flat(#6)' along the throat.
The photo I originally mentioned I couldn't find but moot at this point methinks.

Re: A very odd penny

My basic question is: Is this just a novelty, or something that I should pursue as a coin that may be of interest to collectors? To answer the question that I missed...and getting back to what I said above... The cost of labour that it took to make this piece, if it can be examined and still fool t...

Re: 1896 10 Cents Obverse Variety

Had enough juice to take one photo. http://www.coinsandcanada.com/forum/class/test/1896_10c_obv5.jpeg You see? The forehead flattens on a #5... not even close to the high curve of the #6, which, as soon as I find another battery I'll take a shot of a 1898 obv#6 so you can compare side-by-heach taber...

Re: 1896 10 Cents Obverse Variety

The easiest way that I've found to see the shape/slope of the forehead is to turn the coin so that the bridge of the nose and the point where her forehead meets the laurel are on a horizontal. By doing so I've found your attention is focused on the shape of the "hill", and in setting coins...

I could post a pic of my obv#5 if you'd like :D

But hey-- it's a nice coin nevertheless. Don't throw it away
