Re: 1898H High or Low H?

There are everyplace H's .. high, low, left, right. The H was handpunched into the working dies, so there is a different position for each die. At about 70-80,000 coins per reverse die, do the calculation. There's no such thing as a high or low H .. how high, how low? May want to tell CaC that one ...

1898H High or Low H?

Wasn't certain if the top cross of the H had to be buried under the leaf like on my other one, or just touching to be a 'High H'?

This one touched but isn't buried.

High H or low H?

Cheers.

Re: 1945 No Chrome?

Here I am answering my own questions... Steve, check this ebay item out. I'm not sure if this one is supposed to be missing the chrome entirely or just in some areas. To my eye the effigy looks chromed. This is what the seller says (bold mine): This was an internal test to see if NGC would grade th...

Re: If You're Near the US Border... Tip for my Countrymen/wo

Being from Minnesota I hear what you are saying when it comes to our US coin shop/dealers. They seem to minimize the value of Canadian coins to the point of all copper cents are due to be melted and the silver coins to be stacked waiting for a higher price in silver to rear it's head. I just find t...

Just like Windsor/Detroit. North of Canada.

Re: Stuff that in your pipe and smoke it.

Just not a clue how to grade these things. Hand me an 1891 Seated Liberty Half, or any Barber, no sweat. Give me something from my own country, *crickets*. haha If you're going to carry a horse shoe up the wazoo then you're just gonna have to learn. The GRV and GRVI are the easiest to grade over th...

Re: 1945 No Chrome?

Is this one of those '45 no chromes, or has the chrome just worn off? That's a question for the ages. A better question to ask would be: why did these missing chromes not exist when I was young and when did they become accepted as a major variety? I have never seen a steelie in as bad shape as the ...

1945 No Chrome?

Is this one of those '45 no chromes, or has the chrome just worn off? I don't know very much (nada) about the post-22's. I can't find any trace of chrome anywhere on it. I wound up with a hoard (hundreds) of Canadian pennies and nickels (22-60ish, both) and am giving myself a crash course. No big ke...

Re: 1946 Canada Half

1946 is my birth year. I took a 1946 dollar and inlaid it into the handle of one of the canoe paddles that I hand carve ... everything is done with a spoke shave(s) and nothing more mechanical than that. They look nice ... maybe a 50 cent would be even better .. not so big. Anyway ... nice find Tha...

Re: Stuff that in your pipe and smoke it.

My latest big find from the till is a Habs 100th anniversary Loonie. GO HABS GO!! (Montreal born and raised). Nice find! Might have something around here to trade. Haha This '46 has a spot or two of your namesake, but overall I dig the toning. Just not a clue how to grade these things. Hand me an 1...

1946 Canada Half

Thoughts on grade? Stopped for some Player's Lights in Windsor, ON on my way back to Michigan the other day. Guy in the convenience store asked if I wanted it because it was Sunday and he was short on quarters. 'Adjusting horseshoe' as I type. Cheers. http://www.coinsandcanada.com/forum/class/test/1...
