Re: grading a 1894 Can Quarter
Hello Charleyboy, Where did you buy this coin? Did you pay much? Can you try to take a better picture of the coin out of the 2 x 2. I am afraid I may have some bad news for you. I think that you may have purchased a counterfeit coin. Look at the 5, the C and the T on the reverse. Also look at the br...

Re: 1909 Canadian five cent coin
I will be a little harder and grade it an EF40.
Next time try taking the photo on a different background, possibly plain white paper or another colour to give good contrast.

Re: 1901 50 Cent Canada / Grade?
I did a quick comparison of your coin to a counterfeit 1901 - 50 cent coin I bought from a Saskatchewan Web Auction last summer. Yours does not have the same marks or lack of details that my counterfeit coin has. I also had the metal in mine analyzed. There was no silver in mine. If you are worried ...

Yes I agree VF20, however the damage could affect what you get for the coin should you try to sell it.

Re: Another NGC Grading Masterpiece
Based on the wear on the centre diamond (the key point), around the eye, mustache and chin, I would give it a VF30.
It has less wear than a VF20 might would have but a little more then a EF 40 I think.
It is nowhere near AU let alone AU 58.
Just my thought.

Re: Thanks Grandpa
Hello Beeny04, That was a nice gift from your Grandfather. Yes there is some value to what you have, unfortunately not a great value. It appears that some notes are circulated and some possibly uncirculated. The 1954 - $50 is very nice and has a nice serial number Try and avoid touching the possible...

Re: $2 Bill 1986 BUR Prefix
Your $2 note is worth $2.
BUR is a common prefix. You will find it listed in Charton's Cdn Government Paper Money Catalogue.
Yours is in such poor shape that I would return it to the bank unless you want a copy for the 1986 - $2 bird series.

Re: 1979 5$ Test Bill
Hello EJG, Sorry, the note is definitely not an EF or VF. It is possibly an F or at worst VG. Can't tell until it is actually seen and handled. You do have a potentially rare note even as a VG or F. I must admit that I am debating the merits of having it graded. Where are you located? Depending wher...

Hi sbowman, Do you think you will have an opportunity to get to the Edmonton coin show March 10 and 11? I would definitely like to see that note. I know some others there would also be interested in seeing it. Did you get the PM I sent in January. How's the snow up north. Tons in and around Calgary.

Re: Lucky find 1870 Quarter
Thanks for your input Bill and Coinguy. I think it is actually a fake. I downloaded the linked picture, enlarged the photos and compared them side by side. The things I noted are: - the indentation at the bridge of the nose - C (in cent) is at an angle - the shape of the E and it's centre don't seem...

Lucky find 1870 Quarter
A friend of mine came across an interesting/amazing find (if it's real). Approx 2 weeks back he went to a MacDonald's in a Walmart store and ordered a hamburger. He paid with a bank note and got some change back. One of the coins felt different so he had a look and then showed it to his wife. She wa...
