Re: Mule Coin: 2000 pride 25 cent

Your coin is not a "mule" coin and you are completely misusing the term "mule". What you have is a minor die chip on a perfectly NORMAL coin that some people would identify as an "error" (but it's not an error). The die chip and the "dot" resulting from it, adds no premium to it and normally would a...

Re: 1945 nickel - chips - opinions

Chips on war-time dies frequently occur, since the better steels and other alloys were being used for armament, vehicles and ships. They used the dies until they physically couldn't be used any more. There is no premium for the chips, but keep it as a nice find.

Re: 1973 Quarter Doubling

Without the coin in hand and just by the photos, I think that it's mechanical/machine doubling. It happens when the die, just a nanosecond after the strike slightly moves where it drags alittle amount of the planchet metal and leaves what looks almost like a shadow. The closer to the edge of the coi...

Re: Assist on variety if distinguishable - likely 1859 cent

It's either a late stage 1858 or an early 1859, just going by the vine break at leaf 7. The very last dies to strike the 1858 had a very tiny vine break at leaf 7 (most all 1858's have no vine break there)and all of the 1859's had a vine break at 7 that started tiny and then grew to huge by the end ...

They aren't 'linked" It is a die crack running along the beads. It's very common on almost denominations and/or monarchs.

Re: CHARLTON CATALOGUE

Charlton prices USED to be from dealers, but they SUPPOSEDLY changed to reflect some auction prices as well. Regardless, their prices rarely are updated year to year and are historically high or overly optimistic. I think that most, except for some rare, scarce, or high-grade coins, about 30% high, ...

Re: 1947 nickel errors ? Dot? Multiple dots?

I don't see a dot anywhere on your coin. Look at the 1947's on this section of the site. As mentioned above, "dots" are caused by die chips on the die or by small rust pits on the steel. Remember than '47 was just after the war where much of the desirable metals were still in short supply and steel ...

Re: 1936 Is that a dot under the leaf? And the 6 ? What does everyone think?

I forget the guy's name from a few years ago who used to find "dots" on all kinds of coins, but he hit the '36 cents pretty hard, striking out every time.

I'd say f-12 to 15. Many heavy scratches as well as the actual visible wear. Again, a couple bucks Canadian.

Very few of the folks that posted 16 and 13 1/2 years ago. I only saw one, but it was great to see livingdinosaur , who used to be a regular on a couple sites, but don't think that he's with us any more.

It looks like that line/scratch runs through and over design elements. Is that line raised above the fields? To me it doesn't look like a die crack.

Re: Does doubling on a coin increase its value?

It depends on what kind of "doubling" that you are talking about and how much is the offset. If you can't see it with bare eyes, it normally won't increase in value

PMD. It looks almost like solder or something and also looks like someone started to drill a hole and then tried to fill it.
