Re: What is a "Fish Scale" coin

Found this here-- http://www.pcgscoinfacts.com/Hierarchy.aspx?c=77 Ron Guth: The United States Three Cents is an unusual denomination that first appeared in 1851, although pattern coins for the denomination were produced in 1849 and 1850. The original purpose of the Three Cents coins to provide an i...

Re: Split grading coins???

Hey there, I'm just wondering how often a split grade should be used. I'm grading some 1937-1952 canadian 50 cent pieces and I'm finding the reverse grades a lot higher. I've seen coins in the past F/VF on them meaning the coins has two grades, but am wondering how often it should be used. I've got...

Re: New collector looking for advice

Precious cargo received with heartfelt thanks (from me and grandchildren) ... I must insist on remuneration of some sort as there is no way I could have found these in circulating coins. Can I procure something for you in Canada? Glad to help out. Already getting replacements for less than face. Th...

Henry ... Excuse delay in replying ... taking inventory is time-consuming. Here is a quick list. Pennies: 2009 & 2007 Zinc (missing for all four grandkids); 1965 Large Beads Blunt 5, missing 2; 1955 & 1954 (have a few but cannot determine if shoulder fold or no shoulder fold, large or small...

Re: New collector looking for advice

I am collecting cents, nickels, dimes, quarters, Loonies, and Toonies. I initially tried the blue books but quickly gave up on them because they did not accommodate the varieties. I now use the appropriate plastic sheets for each coin. I have gone back as far as I can by purchasing rolls from bank ...

Re: Non-magnetic nickel in 2012 proof quarters?

I asked what it is worth-- Hi Joe I would estimate that the coin is worth a $100 or more as it is a coin made on a foreign planchet. If a lot of them turn up, it will be worth less than that. If it's the only one, it will be worth more. But it will take many years to find out how plentiful or rare t...

Re: Non-magnetic nickel in 2012 proof quarters?

Thanks, Joe. I'm pretty sure that I have seen George's name before. Even if it is a non-nickel planchet, it's virtually impossible to know the composition of the planchet that was used without removing the coin from the case. I'm probably at the end of the information road for this coin. I'll just ...

Re: Non-magnetic nickel in 2012 proof quarters?

I emailed George Manz who is an expert on Canadian coins and asked. Do you have any thoughts on this coin http://www.coinsandcanada.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=6771 it is not mine but I thought it might be a wrong planchet coin. Thanks Joe Henry And got this back-- Hi Joe I also think that it ...
