1953 Nickels -- Definitive Descriptions of SF/NSF Near/Far
Hi All, Picked up a bunch of Nickels today. About 200, ranging from 1922-1964. None of the 'biggies' in there. Some nice '43 Tombacs, a '45 no chrome, '47 Maple Leafs. Few errors etc. Here's what I'm not understanding from guides, and even CaC's photos... the 1953. I have about 10 of them (all w/Chr...

Re: 1965 Canada PL Dollar -- Variety.
Cheers, Bill! I just wanted to know b/c I a) wasn't sure, and b) spent $13USD on it. I am going to pick up some more books on these. I wound up with a whack of 60's half dollars and quarters as well. Trying to better grasp proof/proof-like etc. vs MS.
Thanks again.
Thanks again.

1965 Canada PL Dollar -- Variety.
I had another one I'd posted a while back, but I still for the life of me can't figure the bead thing out. Thoughts on variety, perhaps (PL) grade, what these things go for (it's all over the place looking at prices realized)? Cheers. http://www.coinsandcanada.com/forum/class/test/1965dollar1.jpeg h...

Re: 1896 10 Cents Obverse Variety
Had enough juice to take one photo. http://www.coinsandcanada.com/forum/class/test/1896_10c_obv5.jpeg You see? The forehead flattens on a #5... not even close to the high curve of the #6, which, as soon as I find another battery I'll take a shot of a 1898 obv#6 so you can compare side-by-heach tabe...

Re: 1896 10 Cents Obverse Variety
The easiest way that I've found to see the shape/slope of the forehead is to turn the coin so that the bridge of the nose and the point where her forehead meets the laurel are on a horizontal. By doing so I've found your attention is focused on the shape of the "hill", and in setting coin...

Y'see, now I thought it was the forehead like with the 5 cents. Doh! Now I'm totally lost.

Re: 1896 10 Cents Obverse Variety
This is my other one. Somehow they don't look the same side-by-side, in hand. But now that I'm looking at the photos, they sort of do. The top of the foreheads look different to me. But then again... You make the call. http://www.coinsandcanada.com/forum/class/test/1896ob1_1.jpeg http://www.coinsand...

Re: 1896 10 Cents Obverse Variety
Unfortunately, it's a 6 I could post a pic of my obv#5 if you'd like But hey-- it's a nice coin nevertheless. Don't throw it away Cheers Cheers, Rod. And PLEASE do [post a pic of yours]. These obverse's are giving me a headache. Hell, it took Bill forever to get me to grasp it with the large cents....

Re: 1874H-Crosslet 4
PS... if it were a Morgan with purple corrosion, wouldn't that be called "Monster toning"? Ha-ha.

Re: 1874H-Crosslet 4
From actual wear-wise, I would say VF-30, maybe a bit better. However, there is lots of corrosion, of which the purple is a part. It especially has been cleaned right around the 4 previously .. probably to see what it was. It may have been buried and then cleaned to see what was there. Fishsclaes a...

Re: 1874H-Crosslet 4
I don't know if Charlton had an annual issue with the 5 cent silvers in the variety section in the back. As far as I know, there are only the regular and the crosslet 4 and no 4/4, but I could very well be wrong. Your coin just looks like a crosslet. Thanks Bill. I'll see if I can locate a Charlton...
