Re: How’d you start in the hobby?

Neat story, somewhat similar to mine from the US. Most of my coins to look through (I started with nickels) came from my paper route and my mother picking up $50 bags of nickels from parking meters once a month. I would replace the ones taken from the bag with my paper route money. Once in the late ...

Re: Reminder - Beware of Inept (or fraudulent) NGC Grading

Not only that, but it's a very scarce variety of the 1892. It's an Obv 2 that has full lower serifs on the N's, at least that's what I see.

Re: Nickel, coin roll hunting

I agree with not even trying to have them cert'd. The cost would be prohibitive and you would lose huge $$$ in the long run. I would start putting them in holders or nice albums and store them in a nice dry place. You have lots of choices as far as holders and albums/folders for the holstrered coins...

Re: 1954 two dollar bill no serial numbers

Here's an article/post on a $1 banknote. Is the area where the ser # should be the same color as the background?

Re: 1954 50$ bill

You need to search for it in the Ebay "sold" section. Enter your normal Ebay search and then go to the upper right and click on "advanced" then you will find a laundry list of the options that you have. Just click on "sold" and you should find a list of all those sold within the last 6 months or so....

Re: 1996 rotated queen

Can you post a photo of it? I'm not sure what you mean. Is the Obverse rotated with respect to the Reverse? If you are talking about the queen in the insert not being directly above the date, then it's possible with post-mint damage. The center section can be moved independently with the outside nic...

Re: 1892 Canada Large Cent

I helped write the 65th edition with Rob, Brad, Dan, Randy and Jim. and we are in the very front of the book thanking us. We each had our own years to initiate and then the other team members vetted and commented on the work. All of us had inputs and voting on the scarcity of each variety. Needless ...

Re: 1892 Canada Large Cent

You have to be very very careful when identifying the 1892 Obverses. It is the only year that has 3 separate distinct Obverses ... the 2, 3, & 4. Now the 1881's and '82's had more than one Obverse (1, 1a, 1/1a and later the Obv 2 and 2/1) but they were not all distinct Obverses from scratch. All Obv...

Re: Canadian Coin Collection For Sale

Where are you located? Do you have access to a major city? Before you begin this evolution, I would suggest that you pick up a Charltons or Haxby/Wiley guide so that you know which items are worth a nice premium, but DO NOT believe in the prices in books/guides. There are a few coin sites that offer...

Go back one click to the forum page and then scroll all the way to the bottom and click on "members". At the top of the list is lightw4re and he is the site admin. He can tell you what you need to do or he may enter it himself. As you scroll the Coins and Canada site look for any post that has "admi...

Re: 2-1992 Canada Large Cents

The BEST marker for the '92's is the long cross-bar verticals on the E's. All Obv 3's have complete N's. And the doubled creased chin/throat is always a give-away. This Obv is also known as the "mumps portrait" because it looks like she has the mumps, a common disease in the mid-late 20th centuries ...
