1960 Large 1dollar coin

Post by ktwiss » Sun Nov 05, 2023 5:22 pm

I have this coin, it's a bit rusty is it worth much and I believe cleaning it is a bad idea?
Thanks in advance!

Well, silver is $23.13 US, which is $31.50 Canadian. Each dollar (or 4 quarters or 10 dimes) contains .6 troy ounces of silver, so scrap silver price is $19-20 Canadian, so it's worth at least that much. It's a common date but coin in nice shape with irregular toning and/or some chem reaction or grunge. Pics aren't clear enough to even guess at a grade, but I'd say AU. If cleaned it would be the same grade but whiter. BTW, the Queen is the front or Obverse and the canoe the back or Reverse

Where would one go to get it graded? Or is it not worth doing that?

It's not worth being graded. It would cost more to grade than the coin would ever be worth. You have a nice coin to keep or trade and clean it if you wish it to look better.
