I am hoping somebody can shed some light on a mystery coin that I have. It is a nickel dime with the large date 196_ but is missing the 8 or 9. Is there some way to identify whether this dime is 1968 or the elusive 1969 large date? Any help would be appreciated.

If it's silver, it's a 1968. If the date is smaller than a usual 1968 10-cents coin, it's 1969.

It was discovered that the original design had deterorated so much with the large date as to be unfit for further use.

The dime is not silver, it is made from nickel. The date is large. The last digit is missing entirely without so much as a trace of an impression. I believe 1968 dimes were nickel and had the large date, but 1969 had an extremely low number of large dates before changing to the small date. Has anyone ever seen a dime such as this? Is my dime a 1968 or 1969?
