I've a 1971 City of Hamilton 125 anniversary silver (colour) dollar and it has an expiry date on it.
Why does it expire and is it worth anything ?

What you have is a TRADE dollar. Many towns issue them to commemorate important dates in their history. Most time, 100,125 and 150 th anniversary. These dollars are minted using nickel but a few are available in silver and gold. The town merchants accept them as legal tender for a set period during that year. After the expiring date, they are just keepers as souvenir.
There are many collectors of these trade dollars and a lot are listed on EBay. Have a look in the " so called dollar " category. Hope this help. :Lecture:

Sorry for not mentionning this great site. I just finish listing some items when I answered the question so my mind was still elsewhere. Will try not to make the mistake again. For the readers, please accept my appologies. :Prier:
