Are these large beads?

Post by willbrooks » Mon Apr 08, 2013 11:00 am

I am new to this forum and live in Pennsylvania. It is not uncommon to get Canadian coinage in our change. I got this 1965 cent, which is a "pointed 5." I was wondering, though, if these are large beads or small beads? Is this considered a variety in Canada? Thank you in advance.

Hi Will,
This site is very confusing in its descriptions of the 1965 1 cent. I think it has copy/paste errors.
See: http://www.coinsandcanada.com/coins-pri ... -1965-2012

A clearer explanation can be found here:

It appears your coin is "pointed 5/small beads".

Is this considered a variety in Canada?

Yes. We don't get a lot of variety up here so we have to make the most of what they give us :D

Added pictures of small/large beads here : http://www.coinsandcanada.com/coins-pri ... -1965-2012

Note : All 1965 1-cent coins look like "Pointed 5". You need to look at the top right of the 5.

Thank you very much for the link. The photos are a dead giveaway that I have small beads. I was going off of a written description and was still uncertain. Still fun to get a 1965 pointed 5 in change in PA.

I am a U.S. cent variety expert, so if you ever have any of ours up there that you aren't sure about, I will be happy to return the favor sometime. Thanks again, and best wishes!

Cheers,
Will.
