1962 Canadian Penny

Post by momofjbsl » Fri May 06, 2016 1:56 pm

Whilst going through some of the coins we have saved I came across a 1962 penny that is the exact colour of a nickel. Did someone just dip in it something? I'm attaching the best pics I could get.

Thanks for your help.

It looks plated. But it can also be a high school science experiment where kids dipped the coins in mercury and they turn out like that. Mercury EATS gold, so keep jewelry away from it.

Great thing to know that gold and mercury are enemies--thanks for the information :D
