Just acquired this coin. Thoughts?

Photo of Obverse?

From the photos, it's hard to tell.... blurry focus. Try to get the entire image of the Obverse and Reverse fully into the frame .. and strait perpendicular down. I can't be at and angle or tilt. It's well worn, so try to magnify the portion that you think sets it apart from a normal one.

Not much to say. It's the most common Canadian coin minted before 1916 and it may be less than "G-good" condition which is nearly right at the bottom of the grading chart. Keep it as an oddity or give it to a youngster. I use coins in better shape than that for golf-ball markers. The 1859 cents are neat coins and I collect them heavily. I can't tell if it is any kind of variety from the photos. Sorry I can't tell you more.

Brass?

Narrow 9 Brass.

No, it's not brass. It has been cleaned at some time in it's life ... maybe more than once. Any yellowish tinge that you see is to to any number of under-the-kitchen-counter cleaning agents that oxidize the bronze and turn it mildly yellow. A coin that old and that circulated would normally be covered in "Vicky crud" in every nook and cranny.

Brass corrosion does not have a yellow tinge. This is a coin that has been already appraised at over $15,000 dollars . I posted it in this forum to see what people would say. You have to stop being so negative and critical, it does not help collectors to always tell them their coins are worthless. Just because your collection sucks don't take it out on others. find yourself a boyfriend to help you deal with your negativity. As for me, I have had it with this site and will unsubscribe. Here is another coin I own that is a lot older and does not have any vicky crud.

I didn't say anything about "brass corrosion" .. I said that cleaning agents oxidize the bronze and give it a yellow tinge. I have seen 100's like this with yellowish hints .. all from cleaning. I have nearly 5,000 Vicky large cents and over 1000 of them are 1859's. I also helped write the March 2012 CN Journal article on the brass 1859's titled "1859 Brass Cent: Modern Science Addresses a Classic Numismatic Question". Out of all my thousands of Canadian Cents, not a single one of them is certified or sent to a TPG .. so I don't have a high-falutin' collection. Seeing your previous posts on this and other sites, I wondered why you posted something with such poor photography and portraying an unsure collector. Please accept my apology if I didn't say what you wanted.

I'm sorry if your feathers got ruffled about your "$15,000 appraisal" coin .. who certified it and what did the XRF say was the alloy?

i know this post is old but i had a laugh when i read it,anyone reading this should know that bill in burl is one of the top experts in canadian large cents, he co-wrote the lare cent variety section in the back of the 2011 charlton, i have met him and been to his house a few times and seen his many 1000,s of large cents and some of the rarest varieties out there, trust me anything bill says you can take to the bank, all he does is help others.
lying about others coins wouldnt gain him anything
it allways seems that its the one person who is actually telling the truth is the one who gets attacked

Hi, I notice a few of the large cents i come across have lines through them, I would like to know what causes this. Is it a result of cleaning in years past? I am trying to post pictures , please be patient
