Near and far 1922 nickel

Hi - I'm trying to figure out what I have in my pile of 1922 nickels. Can anyone tell by the picture if there is a near and a far showing?

That looks like a near rim in both photos.

The spacing away from the rim on a 1922 Far Rim will appear to be almost half the thickness of the stroke of the S. It may just be an optical illusion but when you have the two side by side you get that impression.

Ya - I tried comparing with the 2 pictures that this website shows and of the 8 nickels I have it seems like 3 or 4 all have a different thickness of 'S' , so that made them look different distances from the rim . ( In my eyes anyway.....).
I did list them on Ebay, and I also noticed there are a few on there that say " Far Rim" that look like mine ; maybe they are hoping they will pass as such.
Anyway, since I started selling coins a couple months ago for another person, I have learned a lot ; up until then a nickel was a nickel and it was a given that the older it was the more valuable it was !! I think the first variety nickel I took note of was a 1990 bare belly , and I almost flipped when I got $11.00 for it !! Since then, I've spent half of the last 2 months with one eye closed and the other looking through a 12 X Ruper ........... my wife just shakes her head !
Oh well, a guy needs something to occupy his mind, right ?

Nickels with more wear would probably show the widest stroke. The narrowest in all likelyhod will be the highest grade with the sharpest edges. Not to mention that when the die at the rim wears down almost round, it makes it almost impossible to find the edge, and what you see is just a blur of die deterioration.

Well ( whisper) ( it's my 90 year old mother who I'm selling them for ) !!
But ya - it's so neat to see their reaction when they thought getting $0.20 for a nickel was a whopping 400 % and then you tell them you got $1.25 for it !! . Makes the research and effort all worth it .........
