1964 Nickel, Extra Water Line, Curled '9'?

Hi Everyone,
Any thoughts on the '9'? I have my own ideas. The tail on '9' is almost flat in a horizontal position as opposed to pointing in its normal downward direction.

Cheers

Caused by one of the several hits the coin has taken
and flattened the edge of the nine.
PMD

I see what you’re saying but what I’m getting at is that the length of the 9 is still there but its now angled. The picture isn’t the greatest but the dark part of the tail on the left is part of the tail.

It is damage.
It did not happen during the striking of the coin.
Anything that happens after that is PMD.

Thanks, makes sense. How does this sort of PMD affect grading on a coin like this? Would it be based on relief and fields as usual and then drop from there due to the PMD?

Cheers

I don't think in this case it would make much difference.
Your coin has quite a few dings and scratches so one more
shouldn't make too much difference.
Besides, it is the Obverse that is used for grading, not the reverse.
