1971 BC CDN $1

Post by Tigershore » Fri Mar 29, 2024 11:00 pm

I saved her from definite slow destruction from a non-collector. But not before she received a bit of deterioation to her surfaces. As I was reviewing this coins overall appereance I noticed a broken leg of the letter "A" in Columbia on the reverse. I am from the US and only get a minimal look at error coins from Canada but this resource has helped me in the past. Can anyone tell me precisely what happened to this letter. It looks as if a chunk of the right foot of the letter has broken off. It was not listed as an error and I was wondering if it something that I should keep based on the rough condition of the coin. Obviously not stored correctly. There is also a slight die rotation on the reverse which I show in the second photo. Please give me a helping hand with her please.

Welcome to the forum.

That looks like a partial Struck Through Grease, a minor type of error.
As far as the rotation, the Obverse is not lined up properly, turn it
slightly to the left and it should line up OK.
I guess you are also aware that is a nickel dollar, not the silver one.
As far as errors go, the same errors on US coins apply to Canadian coins.

... It looks as if a chunk of the right foot of the letter has broken off....
That's what it looks like to me too, and that's damage not an error.
We can never know exactly how it happened
The rotation is insignificant, must be at least 45 degrees for any premium.
As with any coin if you like it keep it.
