Just noticed in the Price guide and Values on this web site they indicate Two different Planchets used in 1982, A Thin Planchet used for some of the coins .
Can anyone tell me was there any difference in the weight of the two Planchets.
If i'm not mistaken ( i have been before) they continued using the thin Planchets for the years 1983 and on.
How did they change the thickness of a nickel coin and not change the weight??

Re: 1982 Constitution Dollar Weight
thanks but seems strange 1968 to 1982 they used a planchet 2.62 mm thick then 1982 to 1986 the planchet was only 2.55 mm but the weight did not change, 15.62 g i guess the one planchet was 99% Nickel and the other 99.9% nickel I wonder what the other metal was to make up the last 1% to .1%
Re: 1982 Constitution Dollar Weight
All the Nickel Dollars from 1968 to 1987 were 100% nickel.
As to the answer to your original question, I don't really know.

Thanks for your inputs , it isnt a big thing i just thought it would be easier to determine if you had a thick or thin planchet by its weight rather then trying to measure it thickness. and yes coinguy i thought they were 100% nickel till i read the RCM report that henrysmedford highlighted!!!!!!!

Those percentages take in account the impurities in the Nickel. 99.9% has .1% impurities.
The 1983 has 1% or less impurities. It is the same with gold or silver bullion coins. They are always 99.99% pure.
You never see them stating 100% pure.
