Grading Coins

Hi, Everyone
Where do look to find the meaning of the coin grading symbols? eg: AG3 etc.
I am new at this. Thanks for your time.

AG3 means "Almost Good, Shelton grade of 3". In reality, it really means a coin that is barely readable with almost the entire design obliterated. If you are just starting out, you should purchase a copy of either Charlton or Haxby or Whitman's annual coin book.... you should buy a book(s) before you ever open your wallet to purchase a coin. In the front of each of those books is a primer on the applicable grading scale, usually accompanied by photos that correspond to the verbiage for examples of each grade. You can also look at one of the books, usually in the reference or research section, of any library. And, if you are REALLY lazy, you can go to the home page of this site (the link is just above on the left), go to "coins", then go to "grading" and you have everything at your fingertips. You still should buy the book(s) though.
