MDracing , i see where you didn't get anyone replying to your question. lets try again. I just got a few silver dollars. One in similar condition as the one you show in your picture but on top of the staining it has 50 year old Scotch Tape across one side  then some others that are quite nice condition but all of them had been taped to a cardboard years ago
I have stated on another thread i don't care for chemical cleaning of coins but have read on other sights about dipping them in acitone but that sounds harsh. can anyone give me a better way to remove the tape at least, Anyone out there that can help.

Still no one wants to have any input on this?? Coinguy indicated that it was only worth the silver value , so that would indicate that you can’t devalue it by cleaning it.

If you want to make it look better, clean in Acetone. This will not hurt your coin in any way.
I usually always clean my new raw coins in Acetone when I receive them to get rid of any oils etc. that
may have accumulated. Soak them at least 24 hrs and rinse after removing. Not sure if it will remove
what appears to be green vertigras on the reverse.

Thanks Coinguy, For me the most important thing is to get rid of the tape glue with out hurting the coin, will track down some acetone and give it a try.

Yikes, Acetone. If the coin you have is of no value (only melt), then you can get way with it.

If there is the slightest value to the coin NEVER use acetone on silver. It will remove the luster from silver.

First if you have something like Scotch tape or similar types of tape on a silver coin try soaking the coin in vegetable or non-virgin olive oil. Depending on the amount of tape the coin may require several days in the oil. Then some gentle rubbing and possibly more time in the oil.

Wash the coins with distilled water.

At this point it should be clean enough for mounting in a 2x2.

Should you decide to go any further then consider a proper silver cleaning solution.

If this silver dollar is a 1955 definitely don't use Acetone as it could be ab Arnprior which as you may or may not know has some potential extra value.

Good luck

Thanks bushman74 l like getting all the different ideas as to how to deal with a problem. When you talk about rubbing the coin after soaking in vegetable oil you just mean with your fingers?? I was a little unsure of a long soak in the acetone but did try it on one coin . It did a not bad job of removing the tape but left some residual glue in some of the detail, I was unsure about rubbing the coin to remove that but will maybe try it again with the vegetable oil.
And no it’s not a 55 I’m working on it’s a 65 , but have a few different dates I would try to improve if I come up with a system that works and I like!
the worst thing is that the coins have some toning where there was no tape but then a strip of shiny metal where tape gets removed. Looks a little odd.
