Hey all, I am finally going to put out a question I have wavered over for years when assigning coins to my collection, or for grading, sell, or the cull pile.
Corrosion / rust.
Many times, I come across sweet coins that have some amount of rust or corrosion and I always wonder... does this go from MS64 to AU... or garbage?
I have seen coins come from mint rolls with corrosion, that have never seen the light of day... are they now simply cull coins?
Anyway... I will post a couple pictures of some coins that might grade one way based on wear, and another based on corrosion?
Let talk about this... my cull pile would be much smaller if corrosion or rust was deemed acceptable in the grading world. I know bag marks, and certain small scratches are passable between grades, but let me know your thoughts on this.
Cheers!
