On eBay there is a 1937 bill that the owner describes as circulated, treated!
Can anyone tell me what is meant by TREATED???

No it’s not certified , just a $1 bill and that’s the way the owner describes it. Had never seen a bill discribed that way and wondered if there was something I was missing .

Treated can mean a number of things
But basically the note had in some way shape or form been altered usually to enhance the notes appearance
Chemicals are often used to brighten or clean a note and usually one can smell the note As though bleach was used
Or issues can pressing a note to straighten it out when in fact it ruins embossing and ripples that show the notes original features
Things like trimming to make borders more even are all alterations devaluing there note
