Replacement Notes

Post by GBELEC » Fri Sep 20, 2019 10:35 pm

I have seen 1973 $1 notes on auction sites called replacement notes , Some are * notes and some are X notes .
This web sited only indicates * notes as replacement . Can some one explain this to me .

Both are correct. When the new issue was introduced in 1969, an asterisk was used for replacement notes.
In 1981 a three letter prefix was introduced to the series and a "X" was then used to signify a replacement note.

all Right this old brain is starting to wrap my head around it now . Thanks again coinguy.
They don’t really indicate that under the “1 dollar 1969-1975 values and prices “ on this site.

There are also what some people refer to as modern day replacement notes
In the Journey and the Frontier series
These notes are within certain ranges of serial numbers
There are Sheet Replacements as well as
Single Note Replacements often referred to as SNR’s
Ranges can be found in the Charlton Canadian Government Paper Money Guide

Hello,

Known X replacement will be added here in few weeks:

Ranges can be found here (ranges are more up-to-date here than in the ones in Charlton for replacement):

For some banknotes, between 1954 and 1975, an * added to the prefix to indicate that it's a replacement banknote.
