BC-46aS $1 1973 specimen banknote

Hi kinda new at banknote collecting, while going through the latest Heritage auction site canadian paper money I found a
PMG 1973 $1 BC-46aS #742 (manuscript) specimen for auction
.
So I checked my trusty 2022 33rd edition Charlton canadian government paper money catalogue page 299 specimen notes of the 1969-1979 multiplecolour issues and stats
#635 Quantity of the BCaS $1 1973 specimen Lawson-Bouey
so if the quantity is #635 with manuscript "set " numbers on the back , is there a list of actual # numbers??? Seeing that Heritage has #742 coming up for auction

No, there is no published list that I'm aware of & I don't understand why this is important. Nobody knows what numbers the printers started at & the # of specimens are low (usually below 1000).

Keep in mind these notes were not issued to the public & only used for educational purposes (to train bank employees on spotting fakes, etc). Most come from Bank of Canada sales to dealers after the fact. The most important issue for that HA note is the high GEM grade but again- keep in mind they never met circulation (some AU & lower graded ones may have came from bank employees who obtained them after training (handling) but who knows?)

This is a very niche area of collecting & I would not advise a collector just starting out to pursue them. They can be tough to sell down the road (unless moving through an expensive big auction house like HA which takes all the profits). Low # notes, special # (eg: radars), asterisk (or X) replacements & test notes are a much better bet.
