Hello,

I need to get some money appraised so I can auction it and have no idea where to start.. I'm from a small town in Ontario near Timmins. Can anyone help me out or guide me where I can look?

Thank you in advance!

What do you mean by "money appraised"? Do you want coins certified? Do you want to know what coins similar to yours have actually sold for? Do you want to know what the "book price" of your coins are?

Hello Melzelk,

First please give us an idea of what you want appraised.

Your question leaves us with dozens of other questions to you.

Do you have coins, bank notes, medallions, medals, trade dollars, merchant tokens, script, etc? Can you please provide a list with a sampling of what you have. Some photos would also help.

In many cases it may not be worth getting appraised. Also may so-called appraisers are not experienced in numismatics. I recently checked out a collection that an antique collector in Calgary appraised at over $45,000. In reality it was closer to $9,000.

Another thing is that some people will charge $50 - 90 an hour to appraise and some of our forum people like Bill in Burl, henrysmedford, coinguy and others can offer more solid advice then they can.

You might also want to check out the Timmins Coin Club. I think they meet at the Timmins Library.

Timmins also has at least one coins show a year however I think it is in the spring.

Finally if you have anything of good numismatic value consider using a good Auction site like The Canadian Numismatic Company https://www.canadiancoinsandpapermoney.com/ in Quebec City or Colonial Acres Coins in Kitchener https://www.colonialacres.com/Default.asp which also has and auction. Both are reputable companies and depending on what you have will possibly not charge you to handle your product.

I hope this helps, however if you want more info from this forum please take the time to list what you have.

DO NOT waste money for appraisal.
