1949 A to Denticle -- Help needed

Post by CDNMace » Mon Dec 23, 2013 6:44 pm

Hello all:

Just looking to see if there's a 1949 Penny pro out there...

Is this 'to the denticle' or 'off denticle? (Am I even looking at the right A?

Thanks,

Steve

It's the second A in GRATIA on '48s and '49s that need to be aligned to a denticle in order for it to be an ATD. See a photo here.

Looking straight down onto the coin can be deceptive. Angle your gaze from above the centre, through the A towards the denticle. Or line up the denticle in question with the centre (pick out its radius from the outside looking in) and see if the point of the A sits on this imaginary line. Remember, it's A off and A to -- not touching just on the edge of the denticle, but directly spot on centre.

I have only one 1949 ATD to compare with but with a new photo of your 1c, I should be able to definatively say whether or not yours is a match with mine.

Merry Christmas & Cheers to all,
Rod

P.S. Here is a common 1949 AOD of which you can plainly see the second A pointing almost directly between denticles.

You're in luck. I'd already photographed it.

Awesomeness!! If you hadn't of replied, I probably would have thought I had about 20 of them. Hahahaha!!!

Happy New Year!

I'm 'celebrating' by cherry picking about $200 worth of Washington quarters. Haha

That's a coinkydink. picked up a variety 6-pak 1-by-1 of ERVII and GRV 25c at everyone is seasonally-occupied elsewhere prices it seems. Ag is at 2013 low today--I should be so lucky. Usually I'm a 5 and dimer but lately I've caught the bug. Thought I'd make a try at building an ersatz 25 cent piece collection. Coins I sold at the top of the Hunt Bros bid at cornering the silver market; but up the grade if I can. Multiples of face was the number of the day and as I remember it was this time of year. Coins I collected (read: from people scraping up all their crappy coins  collecting for the local rag in the 60s 70s.

But don't make me go though the rest of the 2-bit Windors. To be honest...I've never liked the Caribou quarter; Wapiti or Elk or whatever it is. No offence to the designer RIP. Notwithstanding, I've moved on to Newfies.

Over the top, into the breach! When men were made of steel and coins were sterling; not the other way 'round. Lard tunderin Jeezus! Payday becomes payoff after all those years. And, I ain't takin' no wooden nickels. Happy New Year! Cheers!
