Re: A very odd penny
Dave, Like Bill says; I suppose the two coins would be perfectly ground down to half thickness and then assembled. Seems like a lot of skill and bother to go through. Probably a magician's trick/hoax coin... turning a Cdn penny into a wheatie. Kids would love it. It's simple, it works, and 60 years ...

1962 1 cent Harp
I have one of these. I stumbled across it a while back. I could have had it for 40 years, or it was the last penny I ever got---I'm not sure. Looks like it's been through the mill though. http://www.coinsandcanada.com/forum/class/test/1962_cent_harp_rev.jpeg However, that's not the point. What I'm i...

Re: 1919 Five Cent
IMO, even though the large jewels and both bands are present, the overall area is too blurred for me to consider it better than VF20. It's not so much soft circulation wear as there are hard abbrations on the high points especially to George's face. I'm thinking that if this coin had been in circula...

Re: 1919 Five Cent
Technically it's probably a VF but if this were in my book I'd label it F-18 and call it a day. With no real problems, a couple months ago I might have made an offer on this coin-- It so happened that I replaced a dented rim 1919 for a relatively appealling F just to avoid upgrade anxiety. I'm sort ...

Re: 1870 5 Cents -- Double Letters, Die Cracks/Breaks
Flat rim or raised rim? Yours is definately a flat (wide) rim/edge. The "raised-rim 1870" has short denticals and the width of the rim is much narrower than the "flat-rim". The problem with these terms is that a "wide rim" will have a "raised rim" at the extre...

Re: 1949 A to Denticle -- Help needed
That's a coinkydink. picked up a variety 6-pak 1-by-1 of ERVII and GRV 25c at everyone is seasonally-occupied elsewhere prices it seems. Ag is at 2013 low today--I should be so lucky. Usually I'm a 5 and dimer but lately I've caught the bug. Thought I'd make a try at building an ersatz 25 cent piece...

You're in luck. I'd already photographed it. http://www.coinsandcanada.com/forum/class/test/1949_1c_ATD_rev.jpeg http://www.coinsandcanada.com/forum/class/test/1949_1c_ATD_obv1a.jpeg http://www.coinsandcanada.com/forum/class/test/1949_1c_ATD_obv1b.jpeg

Re: 1949 A to Denticle -- Help needed
It's the second A in GRATIA on '48s and '49s that need to be aligned to a denticle in order for it to be an ATD. See a photo here . Looking straight down onto the coin can be deceptive. Angle your gaze from above the centre, through the A towards the denticle. Or line up the denticle in question wit...

Re: Attn: Canadian Mace
Thanks Bill. I take it that's a VG that was cleaned at some time. Although maybe not recently. Shylo you've been far luckier than I. I pretty much gave up on bidding the last week or so because everything I make a move on gets outbid - some as much as 50-100% above and beyond what I expect it to go ...

Got a link Bill? Couldn't find it.
Hopefully this plug'll be taken outta circulation darn quick and that'll be the end of the curse.
Yet again, 'tis the season to be selling coins not buying. God rest ye merry gentlemen.
Cheers

Re: 1812 red maple leaf offset
Is that considered a valuable misprint? Does instantly disolving away the ink on coloured coins with acetone lessen their value? I'll just say it came from the mint unprinted. A rarity! Double the value! Seriously... as a printer for over thirty-five years I snicker at the quality of printing on al...

Re: 1874 H Crosslet-4 5 Cents: Double stamped, inverted.
NGC graded it 'Good Details/Rev. Damage'. Not a happy camper this morning. I dont get it. Is Good Details a G-4 or simply a comment? And this reverse damage of which they speak ... Is NGC saying that the rev. of another coin left a heavy impression on this planchet before it was struck and that's t...
