Re: 1972 voyageur dollar

To me, it just looks like die deterioration. Or maybe just wear or a weak strike.

Re: What's this?

Maybe her initials had an E, H, and P? What's the size/dia? It looks like a Morgan dollar. Most love tokens that I've seen ar dimes or quarters.

Re: New Collection

I think that you've now found a new hobby. Pick up a Charton or Haxby coin guide to give you some reference for what you are seeing.

Re: PL to BU

BU means brilliant uncirculated and MS means mint state. They are one and the same and the NBU just adds to the BU definition. The article is just trying to do away with the PL moniker. In my mind, a "mint state" coin (MS) is naturally uncirculated. However, an uncirculated coin may not be mint stat...

Re: 1881-CC Morgan Dollar - PCGS GRADED MS64 For sale

I never thought that it looked right either and it certainly wasn't a 64. When the computer that copies the "real" coin to make the CAD/CAM dies, they never get the serifs of the I's, E's, T's ans sometimes N's not right and never the same. The fields on the coin looked funky as well, let alone the ...

Re: 1954 5 cent SF missing chrome

It looks chromy to me. Nickel doesn't shine like that with that lighting but, then again, I just had cataract surgery yesterday.

I guess not a modern thing

We've all known someone that this happened to, so this goes WAY back.

Toronto Coin Expo 2023

The best coin show of the year held at the T.O. reference library on Yonge St starts this Friday. Many of us from this site will be there. As per usual, I'll be wearing red. I'll be there Sat only but others there Thursday night. Great auctions and many dealers now that Covid somewhat past us. For t...

Re: Uncirculated vs PL Vs SP

I am really not up on coin designations for "modern" coins. For me, "modern" is anything post-WW1 (1920). You will have to hope that someone more familiar with recent Mint products answers, because there really in no such thing as a proof-like designation from the Mint itself for that timeframe. Do ...

Re: Uncirculated vs PL Vs SP

They are worth less because they never circulated but, rather, were put in a drawer or desk and forgotten about or just looked at occasionally. There are many more of them than any actual "circulated" coins that may have been put away, protected, and see if/when any price appreciation. NO ONE was go...

Yep, steel with nickel plating and then chrome plating. You might find rust if you break one of the bubbles.

Yep, chem lab or metal shop plating experience with chrome. Keep as an oddity as no extra value.
