They are nice to keep as an oddity, and some error collectors might be interested, but I doubt it would pay for a Starbuck's double-latte with tip.

Broken/split planchet. Their QC must have been napping that day.

Re: 1898 H Cent
But you have more than one working die. Each die, with a hand-punched N, would have the H in a slightly different place. All of the coins that were struck from that single working die would be the same, but you have/had more than one working die. There were 1 million coins struck and , by that time,...

Re: 1898 H Cent
No, all of the working dies were struck by the hub/matrix with NO mintmark. That area was just a blank part of the field. Then each partially finished working die was handpunched by by the minting crew with an "H". It could have been a different person handpunching the H's each day/week so they were...

Re: 1898 H Cent
The H's on the '98 were handpunched into each die. Because of that, the H's are all over ... left, right, high, .low etc. None are any scarcer than any other.

I'd say nickel-plated ... Ni is magnetic, but not like steel or iron. Maybe a high school experiment in shop.

Re: A new world record wow!
So it cost someone $10 Canadian plus juice and shipping to buy a $10 bill? And how could there be over 20 bids and the closing price be $10?

NEWguy ... Your images did not come through. Put your post in the sub-forum where it should be ... coin, token, bill, etc. When you post, you will see a bunch of icons along the top of the square. The one with th mountain in it is the one to attach images and make sure they are "cropped".

Re: 2017 Caribou 25 cents , production #
Sellers can put whatever price they want for an auction. If people believe words rather than their eyes, they deserve to be taken. It's a pocket change coin in anything less than 63..

I answered on the other site. Looks like die deterioration causing the funky letters. I like the 5's.

Re: New and need advise
Lar .... It's really not "work". It is just to give you a little familiarity with coins and the grading & selling process. As Jim says above, it gets fairly pricey to have someone come and price or evaluate your coins. You need to have a general idea of what is saleable and what is not and that's wh...

Re: New and need advise
I would suggest that you go to a book store and get a copy of either Charlton's or Haxby's guide to Canadian coins. If you can find one on Ebay or a used book store, they do not need to be most recent copies. Either will give you a thumbnail guide to grading and the scarcity of some coins. Here is a...

Re: 1882 Newfoundland 50 cent coin. Incomplete letter on last D in Newfoundland. Also a crack in the E and I in Regina
The E & I are post mint. You can see the start of the scratch/ gash before the R in Regina.. The incomplete D is either a partially filled die or part of the D broke off the hub so every coin struck with that die would look the same.

Re: 1891 Canada Large Cent
It is an 1891 Obv 3 (by the crossbar on the E's) small date, small leaves SD/SL. It has been heavily cleaned and I'd give it a maybe VF-20, but the cleaning will take it down surely to F-15.

I agree ... post-mint damage. Something struck the coin.
