What were tokens really used for?

I have become interested in trade toekns over the last few months, but have not really figured out how they were used. If a business put out tokens, what were they worth, or how did you know? Could you only use it at their business, and in that case how did you get one? (trading merchandise/supplies...

Where can I find listings of polymer serial numbers

Hi - for the new polymer bills, where can I find listings of various prefixes for serial numbers, and the number of bills issued? These things are easily available for past series when you want to know which ones are rare. Where can I find a list being updated for the new ones?

1812 red maple leaf offset

I have one of the War of 1812 quarters (Salaberry) that have the maple leaf in red colouring, the red that was printed onto the leaf is a little offset so it isn't in the outline of the leaf. (very slightly) Is that considered a valuable misprint?

What is a normal original color, since I've only ever seen them in brown or black?

MS-type coin on ebay - why no bids?

Cruising through the large cent section of ebay tonight I noticed the following offering: m It looks like a great coin, the bid starts at about $10 with $10 shipping, which wouldn't be an overall high price if it really is an MS coin. Is there something about this coin that I'm missing? Why isn't it...

Re: Buying coins - discounts over Trends/CCN

OK - thanks Bill. It pays to ask here too! When would you expect 20 and when 40%? With a larger purchase, or do you specify you want, say 40%? I have been noticing that the ebay auctions seem to go easily at or even above the Trends price, not a discount. Either that or my own ebay-grading skills ar...

Buying coins - discounts over Trends/CCN

Hi - I'm new to the buying of coins for a collection. I have bought a few coins (mostly just large & small cents so far) from a coin shop, been fairly plaesed with the purchases and pleased to see taht his prices matched the prices in Canadian Coin News/Trends listings. This seemed appropriate t...
