Re: 1958 50 cent Extra dot rare?

Most dealers have this 1958 50c ‘Dot’ in stock. They charge a small premium as this is a recognized ‘variety’. It is Certainly not ‘rare’

Re: 1950 50 cents No Design, Multiple Die Cracks

A number of years ago, dealers would not accept the 1950 50c coin as a genuine ‘no design’ without the characteristic die cracks, but obviously the die must have started producing coins with no die cracks and now the 1950 ‘no design’ can be found and recognized with no die cracks. There is also one ...

Re: 1946 50 cent Design???

The ‘1946 design in 6’ is a combination of two die chips and a die crack. Coins can be found with an interim stage of a die chip and a die crack, and even earlier, coins with just a die chip (quite common on the 1946s, as there are several different ones).

Re: 1968 Missing A 50 cents

Hi Rick, The November 1999 CNA Journal had an article on the missing or partially missing letters on the early Nickle 50c coins. The missing ‘A’ in’AD’ on the motto below the shield on the Reverse was the most common (and your coin is a good example) and it can be found missing on some 1968, 1969 an...

Re: Unicorn's head different on one of my 64 half dollars

Some 1964 50c dies have been heavily refinished and details are lost.... this looks like one of these dies. Look at the ribbon under the shield... is there evidence of the detail being lost. As the dies are ground down, the details appear to move further apart when the coin is struck by these dies..

Re: Wide date???

You should also check for a doubled HP on the Obverse of 1952 50c coins. The 1951 and 1952 50c can be found with Doubled Die (DDO) Obverses, and the 1950 50c can be found with a doubled die Reverse (DDR).

Re: 1941 - 50 Cents - Mysterious Varieties

In addition to the spacing of the date digits (32 as that is the Mint figure for the Reverses used} there are a couple of other varieties. There are two styles of the ‘4’ date digit, one with a flared cross bar and one with a non=flared crossbar. There are also two different double-punched ‘1’ s. An...

Re: 1994 50 cent - Dot in "G"

The “Dot in the G” has been recognized for quite a few years but has never gained much popularity. It is a die chip and is catalogued as a variety in the 1994 listing on this website. Of interest is the doubling on the denticles and lettering visible on the photo.... if it is not a trick of the ligh...

Re: 1949 50 cents

Hi Rick,
I knew this coin looked familiar (the squashed tail of the 9) and we had talked about it. Should have mentioned the 4/4 at that time, although it is a little hard to see.

Re: 1949 50 cents

On the 194x series of the 50 cents the date digits were entered manually into each die (except for 1940). For 1949 there were 40 reverse dies and so 40 different date configurations. On this particular die, the doubling on top of the 4 was done (repunched) on one of the punch/hammer strikes (up to 4...

Sorry, although I have several different dies with a die crack that are similar to your coin, I cannot positively identify it. :o

Re: 1949 50¢ Hoof over 9, doubled second 9, die crack between 4 & 9

The 9 in the 1949 hoof-over 9 is actually a triple punch 9/9/9...In later die states there is the start of a die crack between the 4 and the 9. The hoof over is actually a die chip that deveops after the die has been used for a while. . Editing....the 1949 is a wide date and more pictures can be fo...

!9943 A Die Crack between hoof to 3 to rim is fairly common with quite a few different dies.... is there any evidence of die cracks to the right of the unicorn's leg that would allow a more definitive classification to a Zoell number or whatever. 1944 Is a medium wide date (I find that it is more re...

Re: 1951 50 cent v1 in the ear

I cannot get the pictures to display but I strongly suspect that what you are seeing are die clash marks in the King's ear. That are quite common in this vintage of the George VI 50c coins.
