Re: 1954 bills with musty smell
An update on my musty bills: I left the bills in a sealed bag with the silica and it worked really well. I had put all the bills together so the ones in the middle still had a very slight odor but it's barely noticeable. I'll separate them and leave them in a bit longer. I was a bit nervous about pu...

1954 bills with musty smell
Any suggestions on removing a musty smell from 1954 bills? I bought them from an online auction and didn't have a chance to see or smell them before bidding. I knew it was a bit risky to bid on them based only on pictures. They were in individual hard plastic sleeves which also smelled so I chucked ...

Re: 1926 nickel - near or far?
I attempted to take it straight on but it was taken by hand so may not be exactly 90 degrees.

1926 nickel - near or far?
back.JPG obverse.JPG I was given this 1926 nickel many years ago by my uncle. He knew a lot about coins (I think) and he told me it was a far 6. I think it is but I'm really not sure. I've looked at a few articles showing the near and far coins but I still find it hard to see the difference. I'd ap...

Re: 1954 $1 replacement radar
Thanks for those comments. It hadn't occurred to me that it might be the ink but now that I look at it again I can see that the colour matches the ink and the smear spreads out evenly from the letters and numbers (in a circle around the asterisk for example). I assume when you say "processed", you m...

1954 $1 replacement radar
This bill was on sale at a local auction recently. It was part of a group of 26 one dollar bills. The rest were common bills from 1967 and 1973. This was the only one from 1954. I am new to collecting banknotes but I assume a replacement bill with a 3-digit radar would be quite rare. The auction pic...

Re: Can't understand sale price - 1954 modified $5
I would be interested in getting some opinions on why this bill may have sold for so much - is it something special or did someone pay way too much? It was for sale in a local online auction. I went to see it and I had planned to bid on it. It is ungraded. I would say it is in uncirculated conditio...

For Sale on eBay
I'm selling these bills on eBay in case anyone is interested. I bought them recently at a local auction thinking they might be worth a few dollars due to the serial numbers. I'm not interested in keeping them due to their condition but I can appreciate that some people like collecting rare numbers. ...

Re: 1986 $2 bill Thiessen-Crow - BBX with Large B
Thanks for that comment. I realize this bill is not in very good shape so not a good example. I am more interested in trying to figure out whether I'm reading the price guide correctly, i.e. it doesn't list BBX with large B so would it fall under BBX or the other prefixes with large B. As an example...

1986 $2 bill Thiessen-Crow - BBX with Large B
I am new to the forum and would appreciate some help with this bill. When I look it up in the price guide, large B is mentioned for the prefix BGA to BGZ and not for BBX. Does that mean that the large B doesn't affect the value for a BBX bill? Or that the value is more in line with the BGA to BGZ on...
