Re: Universal Die Numbering System

We have to start some where and your system looks like a good start to me. Does anyone have a better suggestion?

Re: 1895 thick 5

And then there is this one. A crack through the N in Regina is hard to spot in this pic. Other cracks are well developed.

Re: 1895 thick 5

I also have one with obverse cracks through the I in Victoria, between the R and A of gratia ,and the last 2 A's of Canada.

Re: 1895 thick 5

rdj65 you are correct about the obverse on the clashed reverse, but I can only see the crack through the G and A.
The obverse of the other coin has a crack through the R in Victoria. Thanks for the input.

1895 thick 5

Looking at these I am wondering if these are 2 different 5's, or is this thick 5 just the result of a worn die?
All opinions welcomed.

1882 H with triple punched D in Canada

I have been going through some of the Vickies that I put away years ago and taking some new photos. I have been posting a few of the ones I find interesting and I think this one qualifies. There are many repunched letters on these, but this one caught my attention because even after at least 2 tries...

1888 heavy clash

I realize that a clash is not an error or variety, but more properly called a die state. Something that happens during the working life of a die, that is often polished out, making them a temporary part of the story of a die. I still enjoy finding them and this one is more evident than most. As well...

1888 - Middle 8 with bead punch

Found this one today while rechecking some coins I had put away years ago. I was not aware that the 3rd 8 on his variety was double punched until I found his one. All the photos I have seen of the bead punched 8 only showed the 2nd 8 enlarged.

1882 2/1 type 2 ?

Received this today. I believe it to be a obverse 2 over 1 from the 2nd die shown on Rob Turner's page on the hybrid obverses. What do you think?

Unusual clash mark

Clah marks on Victoria large cents are not uncommon. They are usually seen as bead marks above the bust or in the vine circle. Another common clash is the neck and jaw line seen beside and above the last digit of the date. On this coin, an 1876 cent, the upper part of the C of CENT is visible just u...

Ejection doubling on 1935 cent

I believe what I see on this coin is caused when the ejector hits the coin while it is partly stuck to the die.

Re: Victoria 1 and 1a varieties

Thanks Bill. He had another site years ago, with more varieties listed that I had used to tag my coins. Guess I will have to wait for him to publish.
