Re: 1967 Coin question
In case you find yourself wondering what you might be looking at on a coin, an easy way to determine off-centre strike, vs. a misaligned die is an off-centre strike will typically be on both sides, and part of the design will be missing. Whereas a misaligned die is usually just on one side, and usua...

Re: 1967 DDO to grade or not to grade?
Thanks for the advice. With all due respect, in the research I have done on this coin, it is in fact a true DDO. Not machine or ejection doubling. The tell-tale signature of telling the MD, or ED from the DDO is the dot between the D and G. it is not smeared or stepped.. it is an oval. On a real cle...

1967 DDO to grade or not to grade?
Hey all, I have a true 1967 DDO. pics below. My question is should I get it graded since it's a lower grade? The DDO makes it a nice collector coin, but I fear the grade cost will outweigh the coin cost at this grade. But on the other hand, since so many people claim that machine doubling or ejectio...

Re: Corrosion VS grade
I have been collecting for 70 years and inherited about 800 pennies. I have finally decided to catalogue my collection. You know, I have often wondered this same question. We must be awful dumb on this subject that nobody wants to answer us or it is so obvious. I would have thought there are tons o...

1979 double engravers initial
Hello all, I am curious to find out more about this penny. I have never seen a doubled K on a 1979 Canada cent before, and I have held a few thousand. I can't find anything about it online in the 1979 documentation, nor have I ever seen one for sale. The closest thing I have come to comparing is on ...

1981 PMD or struck through?
I have another cent here that I'm curious if it is PMD or a strike through?
Is there a way to definitively diagnose a struck through coin verses PMD?
Just wondering, if a coin suffered such a major hit post mint on Rev... would there not be signs on the Obv too?
Thanks!

Re: 1958 cent damage question
Thanks, great idea. I do like to be able to say, "that is acid, or cleaned" etc when looking at coins. But yes, you are correct. Get to know the error types, and simply write the others off.

Re: 1958 cent damage question
Weird that it's actually overweight, maybe coated?
Like I mentioned, I know it's damage but trying to be better informed on types of damage.
So many coins are passed off as errors when in fact it's damage, it's good to lean on the knowledge and advice from others.
Thanks!

1958 cent damage question
Good afternoon all,
I am curious as to what would cause this kind of damage to a coin. (over-all, not the rim damage.)
Acid dip? Dryer?
Need to better my knowledge of how some PMD occurs and how to recognize it.
Thanks in advance.

Re: 1977 Dryer Coin?
Thanks! It's slightly underweight and size, and the rim is completely flat... it feels neat to hold actually. I'll file it away in my odds and sods!

Hey all, is this considered a dryer coin? I've heard about them, but never held one... look like it may be.

1965 dime corrosion
Hey all, I'm wondering what is the best way to deal with this 1965 dime. I don't really want to clean it, but I also don't want to store with the rest of my (non-corroded) silver dimes... what does one do with such a corroded (but silver) dime? ... and since it's a junk coin anyway, should I clean i...
