Re: 1922 Nickel with dot
I believe the dot to be the result of a die chip. Personally I have seen some "dots" generate a premium and then others I see as sellers just trying to drum up some excitement. Your best bet... take it to your local LCS and see what they would offer you for it.. then list it up on ebay as ...

Re: How do I effectively scan coins in coin protectors?
My first suggestion is get the coin out of the 2x2! They're cheap and if you're scanning or taking a picture of your coin you'll almost always get a better quality image if it's out of any container. I don't use cotton gloves... for a few reasons... I don't like "lint" or the thought of th...

Re: TPG Competency
So many topics you've touched upon .... #1 ICCS grades a coin a whole lot different than PCGS, NGC or ANACS #2 with ANY grade you're usually only getting an "opinion" (PCGS does guarantee their grade however within 10K dollars) #3 over the years certain companies have changed their grade s...

Re: Oddity? Thoughts?
I am not an error specialist by any means but looking at this coin my spidey senses are tingling and not in a good way. There's a LOT of things going on with this coin that I can't explain other than PMD. It looks like the coin has a rim edge on it... but then there's metal extruding from the rim ed...

Acetone will not harm your coin...
Soak in acetone, then rinse with clean acetone.
Use only glass (DO NOT USE PLASTICS) to hold the acetone and the coin.
Do it in a well ventilated area with absolutely no source of flame, sparks or ignition switches.

Re: Grading of 1911 quarter
Looks like it's in fine condition but on the reverse there looks like there's some green PVC damage to the coin.....
I would suggest you give it a soak in acetone and then a rinse with clean acetone to try and get rid of the PVC residue.

Re: canadian paper dollars
On this site there's an image that shows the difference between the devils face and modified. You can use that for a comparison. Or if you have a charlton catalog you can look at the prefix on the notes to determine if they're devils face or modified.... Sorry but the pictures are too hard for me to...

Re: canadian paper dollars
Conditions look between EF and AU there may be a few UNC's in there... Unfortunately the off centered cuts on these notes are deemed as less desirable for most collectors. Usually most collectors look for something that's perfectly centered and in top condition when it comes to bank notes. A collect...

Re: Split grading coins???
Okay... #1 after being in correspondence with the guy that literally wrote the book on this specific series this has been one of my favourite series of coins to collect. May I suggest you include a few pictures and we'd be better to give you an opinion of cross grading.... In my honest opinion when ...
