Why is this forum site so daed?

I've been on here for over 10 years and it seems to get more stagnant every day. The reference pages are used by many collectors and the French (original) site is very active. What keeps folks from posting questions/queries on here? Come on guys and girls, lets talk things up a little.

Re: want to trade canadian coins for sacagawea dollar

You posted 2 weeks too late. I had a roll+ of Sac dollars that had been in the secretary for more than 10 years. We used to use them a "tip" money for drinks down in Cuba or the Carib. My wife just got back from the Bahamas and I had given them to her to use down there. There are none left.

The variety section in the back of the annual Charlton's changes from year to year, by the decimal denomination or a subgroup by Monarch. The 1914 has the 50 cents.

I sent you an email. Be a little tentative about someone having a large bunch of pre-1953 halves .. there was a robbery a few months ago.

Re: 1941 - 50 Cents - Mysterious Varieties

The 50 cent guru is pg in rh and is the author of the 2014 Charlton variety guide. I haven't seen him around here lately but, then again, he had a house break-in and many coins gone a few months ago.

Re: Looking for advice for 1989 25 cent coin

The '89's were 100% nickel. Can only say that there was some type of chemical reaction to the surface to turn it so dark... maybe sulpher or something. It's the one on the right that doesn't look right .. way too shiny for 100% nickel

Re: are canadian coins a good investment.

Are they certified? Are they close to UNC? An appraisal and what they would sell for are 2 different things. Take a look at some "sold" items on Ebay by going to "advanced" on the very upper right and then click your coin search and look for what they actually "sold" fo...

Re: Cleaning large cents

Why do you want to clean them? Can you read the date and see the lettering? Large cents, being made from bronze, have their surfaces EASILY modified as to color and/or any luster left. If there is "Vicky Crud", the thick pasty stuff in all the nooks and crannies, it can be carefully remove...

Re: Canada $1 Coins

Until 1967, they are silver and contain .6 troy ounces of Ag. After that, they were made of nickel, and unless they are about 63 or so, they are only worth face value, which is $.75 US. The full cameo ones also have a small premium. Look at this section of the site and remember that prices are CDN a...

Re: pic of messed up 1945 V nickel

I forgot to add that the platings were applied while the metal was still in long strips. When the punches started whacking the coin blank planchettes out of the strips, the egdhes weren't plated, so rust started forming on the bare steel, essentially speeding up the gradual loss of the nickel and ch...

Re: pic of messed up 1945 V nickel

Copper and nickel were in short supply during the war years, as those two were used as alloys for armament and steel production. In 1944 & 45, the RCM made their nickels out of steel with a very thin coating of nickel and then an even thinner plating of chromium(.0003 mm). Exposed to normal wear...

It has nearly no wear, but lots of surface dings. I'd say AU-50 tops

Re: 5 cents 1926 Far?

Yes, it looks like a "far" to me as well. Don't get tired stuffing those $100 bills into your pocket. The coin has been heavily circulated but they're a pretty tough find.
