Re: 1958 50 cent Extra dot rare?

Yes, I think high AU. Not many people will pay more for a die chip ... they may take off $$$.

Where are the posts?

With everyone essentially stuck at home, I'm surprised that there aren't more folks sitting on their computer and passing a little info or questions about coins that they didn't have time to before.

Re: 1971 1c coin

What a great visual aid, troubadour! Even though they are an error, rather than a variety, I've always been drawn to MD Vicky cents with nice offsets. Hub-doublings come from a working die that had 1 or 2 of the pressings needed to fully impress the design into the working die a little off kilter, s...

Re: 1953 to 1964 Quarters

Also, don't believe the prices posted on websites, books or Trends. The ONLY way to find out what it MAY be worth is to look at the actual SOLD prices from an Ebay "advanced" search. Also, different TPG's have different definitions/grading specs for what is and isn't BU or UNC.

Re: Canada Elizabeth coin truly Pink Stars change to White Silver Shade so beautiful

I see only lines/scratches on the Reverse of the coin. At the mint, "die polishing" will leave somewhat similar lines only on the 'fields" (the flat part of the coin). Since these lines go across both the fields AND the design, they are scratches that happened to the coin after it left the mint. I d...

Re: Canada Elizabeth coin truly Pink Stars change to White Silver Shade so beautiful

I don't see anything "pink" or "stary" or even white. It's just a penny that has many many thin scratch lines on it, like someone scrubbed it with a brush. They are no die polishing lines because the scratches go through the design as well, not just in the fields.

The "P" is not a mintmark ... it means "plated" construction.

Re: Are some things boring?

I have been a true variety collector for a long time, specifically Vicky cents. By a "true variety" I mean a change in the dies dictated by the mintmaster (changes in Monarchs, legends, design, etc). Also changes on the Mint floor that are authorized by the mint through the floor foreman (repunches ...

Re: Metal Detecting Coins

I used to metal detect long long ago ... more than 45 years back and also dug for bottles in the old Cal gold towns/fields. My best for metal detecting were, first, local areas from small/midsized towns where there were fairs/gatherings, etc, then very old small cemeteries somewhat out in the countr...

How do you translate it into English? And that thread does not appear to be on numicanada so I can't use the translation on the site. What does it say in a sentence or two?

Re: Metal Detecting Coins

What date is the Vicky? You can try some soaks in pure olive oil ... that works on silver Roman coins. Maybe they will get a little better, but silver reacts to many different minerals/compounds in the soil and they will never look bright and shiny. If you have some old worthless coins that you foun...

Re: 2010 25 cents missing color

Starting in the late 90's, the RCM (and other mints) promotional departments started their insane "let's make some new ceremonial coins". Especially the quarters where the play was ruthless. They commemorated everything on the planet earth or anything historical. They produced multilayer, multiplyed...
