Re: thin 1 cent. Error?

It does look like an odd coin. It would be a planchet issue. It is not a silver colour, so it would not be accidentally done on a dime planchet. It is likely that the metal stripping used to punch the planchet had some thin spots and this coin was punched from there. Alternatively, it could have bee...

Re: 1902 Four Dollar Bill

Maybe you answered your own question...
Certainly there are some rare coins and bills that come up for sale. How often depends how rare, of course.

Re: Mint Wrapped or Bank Wrapped Roll Value

Is your bank roll one of the plastic wraps from the mint? If it is a secondary paper wrap from the bank, the coins would be circulated coins. The plastic and paper mint wraps could be considered as NBU. One way to think about a somewhat conservative guess is to consider number of coins (I would subt...

Re: PL to BU

In 2020 the RCM released an uncirculated packaged set of stunning quarters - Numis-tastic - highlighting their only finishes: BU, SPECIMEN, PROOF, Reverse PROOF, and Matte PROOF. Indeed - the finishes posted in the link I provided are consistent with that. I picked up a few of the Numis-tastic sets...

Your article implies that the mint considers all circulation Strikes as BU.
It does.

Re: PL to BU

IMO, PL and BU are marketing terms. If someone can tell me what proces separates a BU coin from an ms coin, i would appreciate it. BU is definitely not a marketing term, but related to the way the Royal Canadian Mint defines just one of its selection of finishes. see here https://www.mint.ca/en/blo...

Re: PL to BU

I do like that cac is now using a NBU instead of PL. The more people that stop using PL the faster the mint's actual designation will be used more.

Re: PL to BU

Repeating my comments on a previous post - sorry to those that have seen this a few times now: Regardless of what collectors or book writers indicate, for the RCM, there is no such thing as Proof-Like coins. The RCM indicates that they are only uncirculated and their uncirculated (or Brilliant Uncir...

Re: Canada one cent 2012 specimen non magnetic

aren't most of them are magnetic instead of non magnetic? Indeed - I can't find anything to say the RCM had specimen coins that were non-magnetic from this year. Of course most here would know the magnetic and non-magnetic pennies were made with different materials, and the steel in a magnetic penn...

Re: 2021 "Matte" Reverse

Is there any chance that they are not actually rolls directly from the mint? They look like they may have had an acid or base added to them to degrade the surface. I know the mint set up a new Mint Shield product for coins, but last year there were regulation changes for surface coatings - I don't k...

Re: Canada one cent 2012 specimen non magnetic

full specimen sets for 2012 are listed on ebay Usually about $100, and someone is selling a single penny from a specimen set for about $15. Looking at older auction data, maybe worth a bit more than the MS values, but not much... another graded SP 67 is selling for about $100 https://www.ebay.ca/itm...

Re: Canada one cent 2012 specimen non magnetic

The CACs site lists prices for circulated and uncirculated coins of Canada. For the Canadian Penny there were two main types for 2012. Nothing noted for Specimen versions, but there are specimen sets that were broken open and some submitted. 2012 - Magnetic MS-60 MS-62 MS-63 MS-64 MS-65 MS-66 MS-67 ...
