Re: Unicorn's head different on one of my 64 half dollars
It is not a Variety or an Error, that's why there is no listing, it is caused by an over polished die. It is also not rare or scarce as there are probably many hundreds of dies (Especially in the US) that have been overpolished, all producing coins lacking in detail, so it would be dishonest stating...

Ungradable in that condition. Looks like it has been cleaned with steel wool. Only worth bullion value now.

Re: Unicorn's head different on one of my 64 half dollars
To me it just looks like an over polished die. There are other areas of the fine detail missing as well. Not really unique as there would be other coins minted from this die as well. Wouldn't find it on any site as it is not considered a variety. Would like to see a picture of the whole coin as well.

Re: Replacement Notes
Both are correct. When the new issue was introduced in 1969, an asterisk was used for replacement notes.
In 1981 a three letter prefix was introduced to the series and a "X" was then used to signify a replacement note.

Re: Availability of 50 Cent and Nickel Dollars at Banks in Canada
Your chances will be between nil and none. Banks very seldom get 50 cent coins (the last time I asked at my bank, the teller said she hasn't seen one in years) as they haven't been made for circulation since 2002. As far as the nickel dollars go, most tellers don't even know what they are and if the...

Re: Fake or mule
Just noticed this post.
I say it is fake, all you have to do is compare the date on the mule to a genuine business strike toonie.
Also on the reverse the security maple leafs are wrong.

Re: mint pack coins 1964
Reason is simple.
A MS coin is a Business Strike made for circulation and is hard to find in higher grades. (MS65+)
A PL coin was made for collectors, not circulation, so the average grade is PL65 with many higher.

Re: mint pack coins 1964
Two things-
First of all where do you get the grade of MS65 from.
Second, those are not MS coins, they are PL coins as those are PL sets, a big difference in price, for example,
a MS 65 quarter average eBay price is $32.12 while a PL average is $4.25.

Looking forward to your picture but the correct terminology is Doubled Die which is completely

Re: Canadian 2018 MS 68 50 cent peice
These were a non-circulating business strike that you bought in special wrapped rolls of 25 from the mint so the value would not be as high as a circulating business strike. I'm sure if you had a roll and checked it, you would find most to be MS65 and up so the odds of finding a MS67 or MS68 would b...

No extra value. It is just caused by the Die wearing out.

Re: Another 1945 Nickel
That's just damage. Looks like someone tried to cut it.
Remember, it is only an error if it happens when the coin is being struck, anything after that is just damage.
