Can any one tell me about the silver 5 cent coins issued 1998 t0 2006 ?

As I see there are 5 cent coins with mint marks
without mint marks
"P" marks of various sizes
silver 5 cent coins---all issued roughly during the same time

Very curious--- thank you for any help or reasons.

There were no silver 5 cents after 1920.

I'm assuming you mean Nickel 5c pieces (That's why they are known as Nickels)-
In reference to Nickels minted from 1998 to 2006

All coins minted from 1998 to 2006 with no mintmark were made from Cupro-Nickel.
Those minted from 1999 to 2006 with a "P" mint mark were made from Multi-Ply Plated steel.
Also 2006 was the first year the mint used the RCM logo that is still used today so there are
three different varieties of the 2006 Nickel.
There are also some with a "W" mint mark but these were for collector sets.

According to my 2016 Charlton guide (Volume 2), there were EIGHTEEN sterling silver 'nickel' coins issued from the RCM from 1998-2006.

Each year featured a 'common' proof nickel; issued in proof sets.

Also, a variety of commemorated 'nickel' coins was issued in that same time period.
1998 had two made to honor the 90th anniversary of the RCM. Both were dated 1908-1998, and were made in both a matte proof and a mirror proof finish.
In 2000, a silver proof was made that featured "Les Voltigeurs de Quebec".
In 2001, a silver proof was issued for the Royal Military College.
In 2002, another silver proof was made to honor the 85th anniversary of the Battle for Vimy Ridge.
2003 featured a dual date nickel (1953-2003) for the 50th anniversary of the coronation of the queen.
2004 saw the release for the 60th anniversary of D-Day (dated as 1944-2004)
2005 saw the release for the 60th anniversary of VE-Day (dated as 1945-2005). This coin was issued in sterling silver, and also with a gold-plated sterling silver version.

I hope this helps your searching. I myself am currently waiting for three of the coins listed above to reach me by mail; I now need only that gold-plated 2005! Tom

The coin pages on this site only state one material for both?

Your right Terry, they have grouped both varieties as one composition,
but this is wrong.
The letter "P" stands for plated as in plated steel.
The mint used this composition mark between 1999 and 2006 to distinquish
cupro-nickel from plated steel.
During and after 2006 they switched to the RCM Logo.
