Cleaning large cents

Post by KEN66 » Mon Apr 15, 2019 8:15 am

Is there a safe way to clean some really dirty Canadian large cents? Thank you.

Why do you want to clean them? Can you read the date and see the lettering? Large cents, being made from bronze, have their surfaces EASILY modified as to color and/or any luster left. If there is "Vicky Crud", the thick pasty stuff in all the nooks and crannies, it can be carefully removed with a hawthorn thorn or sharp toothpick. Don't use cleaners on them and, if absolutely must, you can use a very mild diluted soap on them and a good rinse with distilled water.
