The P on obverse of 25 cent coins.

Anybody have the following info regarding the P on 25 cent coin? What year did it first appear and the years and motifs on the coins on which it subsequently appeared.

The "P" stands for "plated", meaning that the coin is plated, rather than homogeneous metal. It began in 1999.

As Bill stated, the mint started putting the P on plated coins in 1999 and continued through to 2006 to differentiate them from the non plated coins.
Starting in 2007, all coins were plated, making the P unnecessary. The loonie has been plated since its inception in 1987 and the toonie started plating in 2012, as far as I know, neither has carried the P mint mark.
The P can also be found on other denominations as well, such as the 1, 5, 10 and 50 cent coins.
As for the motifs, there are a multitude, besides the caribou.
