1996-2001 Round Beaver Design,Cupro-Nickel composition.

Post by oldplugnickel » Sun Mar 20, 2022 10:29 am

Looking at the recent Canadian Coins Volume One,Numismatic Issue 2022, 75th Edition page 106.
The nickels' composition is : .75copper, .25 nickel.
Can someone explain to me what happened with this 2001 "no P" coin displayed beside a 2000 coin which is supposed to be of same composition. To me, I think that the 2001 nickel, the plating is missing ...or ? The color on the 2001 coin is darker (copper tone), not nickel shine.
PS. MY APOLOGIES FOR PREVIOUS POST, I was mixing the 2000p with a 2001np

The 2001 noP coin is not the same composition.
It is Cupro-nickel, 75% copper and 25% nickel.
Reread your Charlton's, I'm quite sure it's listed correctly there.

My apologies TBH. I have deleted the previous post. But this new post shows the 2000 and 2001 np on page 106.
Correct composition should still show a nickel shine on the 2001.
Thanks

I guess a good sensitive weight scale may solve the problem.

Far from a expert here but is it possible the 2001 was exposed to a environment that caused it to tarnish ?????

There is no plating on Cupronickel coin, it is an alloy of copper and nickel.
Your coin just has some environmental toning.
