DO NOT bid on item #425 in the TCNC New Years auction. They are describing a rarity that is as common as you can find and had probably over a million + minted. EVERY 1882 H Obv 1 has single serif N's, not the first one seen in 40 years or unknown or the ultimate rarity. It's TCNC trying to cheat people out of their money again with auction mistakes.

Well, I see that the coin in question is now up to $1000 for an, at most, value of $20 Canadian. Buyer beware!

They sent me an email this AM that said that they are adding a sentence to the TCNC auction that states that some collectors believe this variety to be more common than described. YES! because it's not a variety and is the standard 1882 Obv 1 issue that was probably 1.5 million Obv 1's of the 4 1882 million minted; the rest being 1a's,1a/1's, 2's and 2'1's

I talked via phone with the auctioneer and they will pull the auction after talking to the consigner. I got pretty terse emailing and talking to them, but the issue may now be off the table.

'425. 1882H 1¢ Obv 1 ICCS Choice About Uncirculated-55. Designated as Single Serif N, not known to exist in this date. This could be a once-in-a lifetime opportunity to acquire this rare variety. First one seen in 40 years. This would be an important addition to a major collection or a major highlight of a personal collection. A ‘tasty’ find for any serious collector and will most certainly serve as an absolute treasure in their collection. Excessively rare. Worth a premium bid. Expect strong interest and bidding.
Opening Bid: ($1,000) $3,000 AND UP

And this description was for an 1882H that just had a single serif "N", just like every other standard issue OBV 1, so maybe 1.5 to 2 million of them.... a $20 coin.

It is the wise and expert that sometimes can save someone quite a lot when it comes to coins.
It is too bad that they had to be schooled - they should have people there that know better.
