I've recently sold some $100 Canadian gold coins that I inherited when my Father died 15 years ago.
Some were 14K and some were 22K.
I'm told there will be Capital Gains on the sale of these coins.
In order to calculate the capital gain I need to know what the coins were valued at in November 2009.
Is there a resource out there that has recorded the historical value of these coins?
Any guidance you can provide would be appreciated!
Thanks!
Historical Coin Value for Capital Gains Calculation?
Re: Historical Coin Value for Capital Gains Calculation?
What was the price of gold in Nov. 2009 ?
The hundred dollar 14K and 22K generally have sold at bullion prices.

Re: Historical Coin Value for Capital Gains Calculation?
When my wife cashed in some inherited gold bullion from her aunt 2 years ago, there was no mention of capitol gains, and was never brought up by the dealer. Likewise there was some silver sold then at scrap silver prices ... no problem.

Re: Historical Coin Value for Capital Gains Calculation?
As I stated before in my login in Oct, there was no mention of a capital gains tax for either gold in Toronto or London. If the dealer must file papers then it's your decision to continue. Neither golds (one was a bar) were any problem.
