Pre 1967 Canadian Dollar coins

Post by 40ounce » Mon Mar 10, 2025 12:09 pm

I've taken on the task of sorting my girlfriends inherited a coin collection.
I have been learning as much as I can over the course of 6 months.

My question I'm hoping to get some opinions.

There is about 540 Canadian silver dollars. ALL pre-1968,
mostly 1965, 1964. And I'm not sure of the accuracy of the CoinSnap app, but most are graded MS-30 to some MS-65,
and a lot of AU grading. I apologize in advance if I'm not using proper teminology.

I'm looking for advice to generate the most return. Is it best to sell the lot or take the time to sell 1 by 1?

Any info is appreciated.

The attached photo is about a quarter of All the silver dollars.

They are all common silver dollars so unless they were in higher grade,
they are only worth bullion value which right about $26.10 each.
It would be a hard sell to sell them one at a time as they are common.
You could probably sell them all at once to a bullion or coin dealer
but you would have to take a discount.
Also there are no such grade as MS30, it is VF30.

Firstly anything which grades MS63 or lower is considered bullion value or the silver value of the coin. You could sell these in bulk lots or a huge bulk lot for about $30/ coin.
Secondly any coin grading higher than MS63 the values would be higher and I would recommend checking this site further for varieties and possible values with the end game being sales of individual coins.
Hope this helps a bit and good luck.

There might be someone on this site who buy them all in a chunk, or a good portion. See if he chimes in.
