Counterfeit toonies and others Mike Marshal

Post by Bill in Burl » Fri Mar 01, 2024 9:16 am

I have pulled this from another site and you all should listen to a friend of mine on an over 1 hour podcast on Canadian Counterfeit coins, starting with the miliions and millions of toonies. Mike had been a friend of mine for 25 years and he is famous with his counterfeiting education with the RCMP, RCNA, candian Fed govt and even the US house of Reps. Congrats Mike! This is long, but well worth the listen:

Sometimes, but not all times.
Those who have a mission or focus if you will, inadvertantly, unintentionally harm others.
It is admirable that some, a few have a focus due to various personal circumstances.
It is not always appreciated, that same set no boundaries or limitations to their personal "crusades".
Food for thought.

If i recall correctly, which i am certain i do.
Mike took up this worthy endeavor over someone he knew being "ripped off" aka "grifted".
However and unfortunate for me and i will guess others, Mike did not have the good sense to focus on his cause specifically.
In fact, he did cause me great distress, then did offer to "buy" the very item he did cause me great distress over

Understand if you are able.
I am not down playing Mike's achievements made.
I am saying, there are often 2 sides and an edge to every coin.

I am more than able to fully understand what you say or trying to say. Mike has worked closely with the RCMP, local law and even the US House of Representatives to help form and frame laws against counterfeiting. Mike didn't get into this because a friend got "grifted". He was working with the RCMP back in the old CCRS days, an old coin site with a wide audience. He holds training seminars at many Ontario major coin shows and is the first to get EBay to remove fake coinage. He, many times, will buy counterfeit coinage from those who have been affected and displays them at his seminars that he holds. He is one of the few people in Canada who can hold counterfeit Canadian coinage for educational purposes. I don't believe that you had or gave a proper read to someone that the Canadian Numismatic Org and its members hold in high regard. If you ever met and/or talked to him, then your negative thoughts would disappear.
